Tailwheel Feb 2015

TAILWHEEL Feb 2015

If you were in Reno last weekend you know it was extremely windy.  At Minden, SoaringNV’s ASK 21 was torn loose and went over backwards and

it did major damage.  The ship was 6 years old.  It damaged both canopies, canopy bow, tail boom, horizontal stabilizer, and wings.  Laurie is going to take it to Williams to see if it is worth fixing.   On Laurie’s there was a heavy duty tie down plate holding the wings and one of them fractured.  Some people told her that this was the worst wind in 32 years.

Our gliders are not immune to this so take extra care when tying them down.

Two weeks ago Stoney, Tristan, and Chukar flew to Minden in the -182 along with Scott Seher in his RV-8.  We stopped in to see how Red Tow is coming.  The new fabric is on the wings and fuselage and Scott said they did a good job on it.  The engine is mounted.  There is still a lot of work yet and it might be ready in a couple months.

So far 39 members are current on the 2015 dues.  Here they are.  Let Chukar know if there are any discrepancies:

ARMSTRONG, BUE, CASTI, EDLING, FARNSWORTH, FLANNER, FRYE, GUERIN, HARRIS, KNIGHT, LOWE, LUMPKIN, MOEHRKE, NAKASHIMA, PETERSEN, RAUEN, READ, REMBAS,

ROACH, ROBERTS, ROSENTHAL, SOUTHWICK, SPIELMAN, STONE, SWIFT, SWOBODA, VOLINKATY, WALKER, WHEELER, DEBBIE YOUNG, SCOTT, SULLIVAN, WINCHESTER, LOCKRIDGE, TOBIN, OSBORNE, SUTER, VOLINKATY, WILSON.

At the ASI meeting last weekend they discussed WINCHES and they were open to discussing it further when more information is available.  Also there was a change in policy of ASI DUES.

Previously the first year’s dues were free to new members but that was changed and now everyone must pay $50. annual dues.   The dues are due now if you haven’t paid them yet.

Ty White sent out notices and if you didn’t get one you can send him your dues + any contribution you want to :  TY WHITE, 41600 MARIGOLD DR, FREEMONT, CA 94539.  The $50. Dues don’t cover ASI expenses and it would probably take $250+ from each to do that.

This weekend will be very nice, low 60s, and we will have 3 cadets to give rides to and 1 cadet in the SOLO program will fly with Stoney.  Skimmer has a student.  Please come out and fly with a cadet if you have been checked out back seat in the 2-32, run the line, fly with someone to get 3 landings and get current so this doesn’t pile up all at once.

The following Saturday Rooster is going to come out to annual #949, John Carstarphen’s 1-26

And Eagle, Vern Frye, will help and we can too.  Then we’ll fly.

Tax free status discussion again:  In the Dec. 20th General Aviation News there was a good article on forming flying clubs that recommends a 501(c)(7) status as a social or recreational club.  These are simpler to manage than 501(c)(3) charitable and religious groups.  If you’re interested in helping on this, let Chukar know and I’ll send you the article.

HAVE FUN, SAFELY FLY
