Welcome to Fall. Now that the election season is behind us, let’s try to return to the flying season.

It has been a busy quarter for your board. We have completed negotiations and purchased N65824 a Schweizer 2-33 from TTSA. Some of you may have already flown this airframe. Now there are two, two-place gliders available for flying/training at Nevada Soaring Association.

From FlightAware

Like all aircraft there are some repairs that will have to be performed. The tail surfaces fabric is at the end of life and we plan on replacing that this winter when the weather is less flyable. If you are walking around N65825 beware of the transponder antenna. The antenna is on the underside of the wing, hanging down where the unwary can damage their head.

The tow plane situation at Air Sailing, Red tow is in working order. We’ve been towing when weather allows. Skimmer, ask him about his adventure, traveled to Florida and between hurricanes returned with the new, to us, Yellow Tow. Yellow is not yet available for towing, it was last used as a banner tow aircraft, so there are a few changes that mechanics need to make before it is available.

Discord, for those who want to develop a community and place for general glider flying discussion, NSA now has a Discord server. Download the discord app/software and build yourself a profile. You can then log in and join the Nevada Soaring Association, as well as other, conversations. This can be a great place for a quick question to an instructor; discussions about who will be present on any given weekend; providing your subject knowledge to the community.

As a reminder the end of the year is coming quickly. Annual dues for NSA come due at the beginning of the year. We are still charging less than a dollar a day. Pay your dues prior to 1 FEB 25 and it is only $350. An amazing deal. We are asking that every member provide email copy of their insurance cover page with their renewal. I know you already provide that cover page to ASI however, we are a separate organization and also need to see your proof of insurance. So, when you print it for ASI, print a second copy for NSA, or send it in via email. As a reminder, you need at least $40,000 hull insurance for the gliders as well as $1,000,000 in liability insurance. This all goes with the annual signed waiver that is required. I know, we all did it last year, and need to do this bit of paperwork every year.

Finances:

Now that NSA has obtained 501(c)3 status with the IRS, we have had donations in cash or parts. This has been a great financial help to NSA. To all who have donated thank you very much. For anyone who is performing end of year tax planning, consider a donation beyond your dues, consult with your tax professional. You will receive a proper letter acknowledging your donation for tax purposes and our heartfelt thanks. Donations received this year have paid for the purchase of the 2-33 and the repairs to the 2-32.

Come out and fly with us!
